Greenshorts_8 (Jun 2024) - "Just got back from an amazing weekend on Knotweed. Boat was lovely, very clean and spacious. Family run business so had little extra touches which were thoughtful and appreciated. Steve is a lovely guy who gave us a warm and friendly welcome. Dave gave a thorough and valuable talk on how to operate the boat properly and safely which was useful .
All in all, an amazing experience on board a lovely boat hired from lovely people. Already looking to book again!"

Rob S (Jun 2024) - "A couple from Canada renting a Grand Union narrow boat for one week.
My wife and I couldn’t be happier with Steve Furniss and his team at Grand Union narrow boats. We were inexperienced, but Steve’s hands-on approach gave us confidence from the very beginning. Steve introduced us to “Sally”, a 55’ narrowboat that had a Canadian flag affixed to the tiller. A nice touch we thought. After a thorough orientation and checklist, Steve took us about an hour down the canal to give us additional advice and instructions. He the walked back, while we started off for our first evening on “Sally”. Steve then met us the next day to show us how to work the canal locks. (We later found out that many of the other narrowboat rental companies go through a brief safety checklist then say good-bye with a “See you in a week” wave. This is definitely not the case with Grand Union Narrowboats.
“Sally” was impeccable - with a hot water shower, cozy heater, stove, fridge and a tv (if we wanted it). She was like a moving Cottage in the beautiful English countryside.
We were able to pull up anywhere along the canal to visit museums, villages, medieval churches, and of course, many English pubs along the way.
The River & Canal trust volunteers we met at the locks were extremely helpful. Other boaters couldn’t have been more friendly.
Thank you very much Steve. We will do it again! We will also recommend Grand Union Narrowboats to our Canadian friends wishing for a relaxing holiday in the UK."

Elaine L (May 2024) - "I booked Knotweed for a week with my long term girl friends. We had the most amazing, relaxing, fun filled week. We learnt new skills, fully supported by Steve and his team. We met lovely, helpful people when out and about. I would thoroughly recommend Grand Union Narrowboats. We are booking another one for next year."

Uncle D (May 2024) - "Absolutely fantastic, Steve was brilliant start to finish, everything on the boat worked perfectly, full tuition on everything from flushing the loo to operating the locks.
Dave came with us for the first half hour of our journey to make sure we were happy with steering the boat, then Steve met us at the first set of locks to show us what to do, then when we were happy left us to it.
I would not hesitate to use them again, within literally 5 minutes of being on the boat you are in open countryside & so peaceful. Thanks again Steve, you will be seeing us again."

Rachel B (Apr 2024) - "We had the most amazing Easter weekend and even had great weather. If you are looking for a break away with a difference this is for you A*****Service and customer care we were apprehensive at the start not knowing what to expect but we should not have worried Steve and the team are the best and guide you through everything and it was great. Please book and enjoy it really is a adventure and a experience and people along the way are lovely we made lots of friends.Well done guys what a great set up."

Jonathan G (Mar 2024) - "We had a great long weekend on Driftweed. The boat was spotless, with tea, coffee and milk all provided. Steve and his team met us, gave us a full rundown of everything on the boat and then Jeff stayed with us for the first 20 minutes of our cruise down the canal, making sure we were happy with steering, mooring up, going under bridges, etc. The next day Steve met us to take us down our first few locks and made sure we were completely happy with what we were doing before leaving us.

Overall, would strongly recommend Steve, his boats and his team"

Matthew G (Mar 2024) - "Amazing! Boats were really good, people were so nice and overall a really relaxing weekend out! I would definitely recommend it to anyone!"

Anonymous (Mar 2024) - "What a fabulous fun adventure.
Can’t fault Steve and Grand Union Narrowboats.
As first timers, Steve and Dave were full of knowledge giving a very comprehensive handover.
The boats are great, hot water, heating, full kitchen, comfy beds - a real home from home.
Despite the weather being a little showery, this was awesome fun.
Dave ensured we were comfortable for the first hour or so and then left us on our own.
Steve met us the next day to run through the locks which look daunting but his watchful eye was great as we went through 7 locks one after each other.

Despite the weather, it was an amazing adventure which we will certainly do again.

Thanks to Steve and the team."

Richard H (Mar 2024) - "Well, where to start? What a fabulous weekend with Grand Union Narrowboats (GUN)! As complete novices, we approached our weekend GUN break with excitement and - being honest - a large degree of trepidation. From the first meeting with Steve and the team, we knew we were in expert hands. We'd had loads of preparation info and videos but the care and attention in our briefing on arrival was superb. Jeff, our tutor, was a star, giving us all the time we needed to understand the basics of mooring, steering and canal "rules." It was then time to fly solo. We moored up for the night and then we had the challenge of a 3,000+ yard tunnel and our first set of locks. The tunnel (Blisworth) was a great experience and highly recommended. Steve then re-joined us for our first lock experience, staying with us for 3 of the 7 locks we had to navigate - top service! We had three days of great fun - learning new skills, enjoying great pubs and understanding how to live in a "slow world" is not that bad after all, in fact, perfect. Big thanks to the whole GUN team - we will be back.

Overall, would strongly recommend Steve, his boats and his team"

Rob H (Oct 2023) - "We hired Knotweed from Grand Union Narrowboats as a family for a Monday to Friday break. We were extremely impressed with their level of service from start to finish. On arrival we were shown to the boat and where to park our car. The boat was very well maintained and spotless inside. Steve and his team were all very friendly. They showed us through the boat and explained to us how everything worked. We left the boatyard feeling confident and well prepared for our holiday. When we returned, Steve and his team were all ready to assist in mooring up our boat and checked how everything had been. It had been excellent! We would definitely hire a narrowboat from Grand Union Narrowboats again and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in going on a narrow boating holiday."

Catherine K (Oct 2023) - "We hired the boat Driftweed last weekend and the experience exceeded our expectations. Steve and his team (special thanks to Dave) were first rate, from advice before travel to extensive, tailored guidance on the boat and even joining us on day 2 to help with navigating locks for the first time. The boat itself was well-maintained and well-equipped. The milk/tea/coffee and fresh flowers were a nice touch. We would travel with Grand Union Narrowboats again and would 100% recommend"

Carl M (Oct 2023) - "Very Enjoyable trip the boats have everything you need to get you started tea coffee etc... I was shocked to she towels had been provided wasn't expecting them after a rocky start and a few mistakes getting used to the boat it was a very enjoyable trip and would highly recommend anyone doing it"

Arthur H (Sep 2023) - "Such a great company . Was only last week we come back but for a small family company it was amazing . Entrance is hard to find but they sent us emails with photos and sat nav address to put in etc . Early check in which makes a change from other company's, boat had so much space outside , beds were so clean and smelt so fresh and looked inviting unlike most beds u get on holiday , and the smallest touch but meant alot to us was the fresh flowers ( not fake) which me mum looked after throughout holiday . Plus they let us park our campervan on site while we was away and Steve even parked his car Infront of it while we was away for extra security , didn't get rushed away they let us unpack first before the tutoring but luckily we had experience from previous year . And when we got back there was fresh flowers ready for the next people to get put in after cleaning etc and there prices are not expensive like other well known company's. Truly can not recommend this company enough . And all the staff were so friendly. Only downside was we only had a week haha . Thankyou Steve and all the narrowboat family ."

Jane J (Sep 2023) - "Could not have been better - I highly recommend Grand Union Narrowboats if you plan to hire a canal boat. Their service was friendly and SO helpful. This was the first time on a narrow boat so Steve not only explained the operation of the boat but also came with us for the first mile or so down the canal to make sure we were comfortable driving the boat. And best of all, EVERYTHING on the boat worked perfectly - no issues."

Linda M (Aug 2023) - "We hired jimsonweed from grand union narrowboats. We were delighted with the service they offered. They were really helpful and totally professional. The boat was spotlessly clean and really comfortable. We had three nights on board which allowed us to cruise to cosgrove and back. A really lovely trip. Thank you to Steve and his team. We really, really had a great trip. Read less"

Denise (Jul 2023) - "What a great company! It was our first time on a narrow boat, and the whole crew was so helpful. The trained us very well, and so we could enjoy our 12 days trip every single day (and every lock....). The boat was very well equipped, very clean and there were flowers on the table, milk in the fridge, and tea/coffee ready to be prepared. The whole crew is very helpful and friendly, and we always knew: If there is a problem....just call Steve ;-))) We really had a wonderful time on 'our Jimsonweed' and highly recommend the 'Grand Union Narrowboats-Company'! Many thanks Steve and team!!"

Kim B (Jun 2023) - "We spent 5 days on Londonweed, a well appointed & clean boat. We received an excellent brief and instruction on arrival. We felt we received enough instruction to confidently manage all aspects of canal boating, from navigation of the wayerways, locks &moorings to use of the galley & bathrooms (&boat toilets). Highly recommend this trip to any age group. We loved it."

Mick G (Jun 2023) - "just got back from a fantastic week aboard NB Knotweed, she is a 3 double bedroom boat that Steve has refurbished into a brilliant boat. the service you get from Steve and his crew is second to none, the boat was spotlessly clean and handled like a dream. we went from Weedon up to Fenny straford and back stopping at sorts of places, some great parks to moor at and great walks. This is our second tome with GUN and would def reccomend them to anyone. Thanks for a great holiday."

Jeremy (Jun 2023) - "Everything about it and Steve’s service was second to none. A beautiful boat, we’ll equipped in every respect"

Malcolm C (May 2023) - "From start to finish Steve from Grand Union, narrowboats gave us, five star treatment, great boats and a friendly and efficient service"

Bob & Carol (May 2023) - "Had a great holiday on Tasselweed, the boat was clean, comfortable, well equipped and maintained. Steve and his staff were very helpful, we would certainly recommend Grand Union Narrowboats to both newcomers or more experienced folk like us."

Alison (May 2023) - "Had a great 5 days on the canal, first time with this type of holiday. Steve the owner & staff were outstanding with tuition & advise. Set us on the best route for newbies & we were met at the first set of locks the following day for more tuition & help. Boat was very clean & everything supplied that you would need. Even had little personal touches like fresh flowers & a welcome bottle of wine. Had a problem with another boat but Steve did not want it to spoil our holiday or experience & was very reassuring! Would use this company again & recommend."

Diana A (May 2023) - "Just experienced my first narrow boat holiday and could not have chosen a better company. Steve and his team at Grand Union Narrowboats were amazing and gave us so much confidence. Add to that our wonderful boat Tasselweed. What a brilliant and clever use of space. We even had a dishwasher and washing machine! There were five of us on board - friends not family - but there was always enough space so we never felt crowded. Also cannot believe how friendly the canal community was - happy to help if needed and always up for a chat. In fact I cannot recommend Grand Union Narrowboats highly enough. We will be back."

Ian (Apr 2023) - "My wife and I hired Driftweed for a week as a test and look forward to buying a narrowboat and living aboard in the near future. We certainly weren’t disappointed. Steve and his team at Grand Union are second to none and offered all sorts of advice as we bombarded them with questions. The training package they delivered was excellent, and fully informative, and made sure that safety points, and a myriad of others, were covered before being let lose onto the cut. We had a lovely week away, and it’s certainly now our first choice as a holiday break. Why fly when you can go by Canal?"

Anonymous (Apr 2023) - "Just back from a week's canal holiday on board Tasselweed. The boat was exactly as advertised and was without a doubt the best boat we've ever hired; dishwasher and washing machine on board made life a little more luxurious, and bow thrusters made turning the 70ft boat so much easier than we've ever experienced. There was some serious boat envy from others on the canals throughout the week! Steve and his staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and the extra touches from them were very much appreciated; wine, flowers and Easter eggs We couldn't have asked for anything more"

Isabel S (Mar 2023) - "Just had a fantastic week on “Ragweed”. Steve and his team are brilliant and really looked after us novices. Wonderful way to unwind on very well looked after narrowboats."

Claire J (Mar 2023) - "I highly recommend Steve and the team at Grand Union Narrowboats, at every point, they went the extra mile and made us feel welcome and well-briefed.

The canal is beautiful, and the boat was super clean, we arrived to find a bottle of milk in the fridge and a large bunch of flowers in a jug on the table (extra mile!)

We chose to travel south, passing Bigworth and through the Blissworth tunnel. We also walked along the toe path and visited the 17 locks leading to Northampton which is an engineering feat not to be missed.

All in all a fab holiday."

Deborah M (Mar 2023) - "Fantastic weekend on the Jimsonweed. Boat was lovely - very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Steve and team could not have been more helpful. Highly recommend"

Rachel D (Mar 2023) - "We had a wonderful week staying on narrowboat ‘Ragweed’! Steve and the team at Grand Union Narrowboats were super friendly and helpful - Steve even took time away from his evening, weekend and family to help us with a minor problem we encountered.

Ragweed is a 5* boat - well equipped, cosy, warm shower, a proper bed! The finishing touches were very much appreciated - quality blackout curtains, fresh flowers and even a pint of milk, tea, coffee and a bottle of wine to welcome us onboard :-)

We travelled from Weedon to Leighton Buzzard and really enjoyed the experience of cruising through Blisworth Tunnel! There were plenty of canal-side pubs to stop at and some really lovely picturesque spots to stop at overnight.

We’d highly recommend a narrowboat holiday Grand Union Narrowboats, with Steve and his team - we’ll certainly be back!"

Julian P (Mar 2023) - "Perfect weekend trip. Amazing experience. Went south to Cosgrove and back. Boat was perfect. Warm, cosy and well equipped."

Carolyn B (Sep 2022) - "We have been doing narrow boat holidays for over thirty years and always come to the same place. The 'weed' boats are known and loved by many. Steve and the team are always amazing and on hand by phone for any problems you may encounter. The induction for beginners is thorough and the facilities on the boats are very good. The little touches such as fresh flowers and a bottle of wine are lovely. From Weedon you have a choice of directions to travel and can make the holiday as easy or as strenuous (but fun) as you like, depending on whether you choose to take routes that have lots of locks."

Sandi O (Sep 2022) - "What a great midweek break we have had, as first time boaters the tuition given was 100% as was the the lock tuition. What a great team so helpful. The boat was lovely, clean and fully equipped. We had Londonweed for the break and it was great. Its was my birthday while away and my husband contacted Steve to help him surprise me and when we got there I had a Flowers, Champagne and a chocolate cake made by Steve's wife, which was amazing. I simply cannot recommend these guys enough, we will definitely be back"

Mark S (Aug 2022) - "Had a great time on JIMSONWEED this bank holiday Friday to Monday 26/8 till 29/8/22 There was 5 of us all new to barging but picked it up quickly, Arrived at 2pm to pick up boat but didn't get to leave till 4:30 due to other boats getting briefed first which was the only bad bit.... fully recommend the staff at the Gran Union Narrowboats very helpful, Boats all in excellent condition, Clean and well equiped"

Auton (Aug 2022) - "We had a wonderful time on Knotweed for a week 8/8/22. There were 5 of us (2 of our sons and a girlfriend), we were all very comfortable. The boat was very well equipped, nice touch were the fresh flowers, coffee and tea, milk and bottle of wine. The support, instruction and training received were fantastic. Thank you very much Steve and all his staff."

Caitlin J (Aug 2022) - "Had a lovely week away. We had great tuition regarding the use of locks. The boat was clean, nicely painted and also had a bottle of wine, flowers as well as a pint of milk to make us feel at home. Decent shower, full sized oven and fridge was handy. We stayed on Ragweed which was perfect two. Our friends came to meet us and have drinks after a pub dinner on a nice summer evening. Canal is set up for fishing, pubs and some nice walks. Car was also secure in a fence and gated compound where the boats were which gave us peace of mind that it was safe. Not lots of sockets but plenty for two people. Make sure you bring camping chairs as they were a god send for when we were moored. We also happened to have a gardening kneeling pad with us which was perfect to place on the wooden seat whilst at the helm of the boat. Nice pubs dotted along the way. Also a Tesco express near the boat yard and one further down the river next to a bridge to help us stock up on fresh essentials. Bring some food for the swans as they love getting fed."

Andy G (Jul 2022) - "First ever canal boat holiday, what an incredible experience. My wife and I are both frontline NHS so this was a perfect way to de-stress from the workplace. Everything was effortless. The booking, the choice and directions etc. As we hadn't done this before, Steve & the team were thorough in their tuition. Taking us through the boat, the controls and then sailing with us until they (and us) were happy for us to motor along on our own. We met Steve the next day and he guided us through the locks, again with very good instructions. Ours was a party of 8 so we had plenty of help for locks etc. More than enough room and storage on the boat. The beds were comfortable, and the shower was amazing! I recommend you buy a canal book (either from Steve or elsewhere) that shows all the locks, water points, pubs(!) and shops etc along the canal. So many places to moor up, so very quiet and peaceful. Lots of rich history along the way depending on which route you take. We sailed south for 20 miles before turning back. All within 7 days and never did we feel like anything was rushed. As an ex-photographer, i got off the boat a few times to capture some amazing sights. We took a couple of bikes and would also recommend this if you have a large party as the tow paths run alongside so you can venture off for a while. Definitely doing this again. Enjoy!"

Anonymous (Jul 2022) - "Our first time on a narrow boat and couldn’t fault the service and boat provided by Steve and his excellent team. The friendly welcome, thorough familiarisation with the boat and the time and care taken to ensure we were happy and confident before setting out were second to none. We were accompanied for the first few miles with plenty of useful advice and the following morning we were met at the first set of locks where once again excellent advice and instructions given in a very friendly and reassuring manner. Boat in immaculate condition inside and out, lovely thought to have fresh flowers and a bottle of wine to welcome us on board. 3 days of peaceful bliss pottering along and totally relaxing (well, apart from the 7 locks at Stoke Bruerne 🤭) Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Steve and his team and we will certainly be returning"

Simione (Jul 2022) - "We would like to echo all the other positive reviews about the narrow boats from Grand Union Narrowboats in Weedon. Having owned and cruised on our own narrow boat for five years, we wondered whether renting a boat would measure up, but it did! We couldn't fault Londonweed, or Steve and his fantastic and helpful team. We loved the interior layout of the boat, the kitchen and bathroom set-ups, and particularly all the good storage areas throughout the boat. There were extra thoughtful touches, including flowers and a bottle of wine, as well as games to play on board. We would highly recommend Grand Union Narrowboats to anyone wanting to cruise on the English canals, and hope to be able to use them again ourselves."

Edward B (Jul 2022) - "Just had a wonderful week on the narrowboat tassleweed. What a great boat. It had all we could need and more. Great setup for family with 2 parents, 2 children and grandfather. The owners took all the time needed to explain first time canalboat users how every thing works. Came along for the first miles on the water and helped with all the locks until we were confident at them ourselves. Great service!"

Peter B (June 2022) - "Super holiday on Jimsonweed. Boat was spotless. All towels and bedding in super condition. Dave gave informative & interesting instructions on safety and do’s and don’ts. BUT it was the little extra touches that made it for us – flowers in the cabin, milk in fridge, tea, coffee, washing up liquid, soap and not forgetting the bottle of wine. Brilliant holiday, brilliant Company, very friendly team. We will go again and would recommend to anyone."

Joanna W (May 2022) - "This was the second time we hired a narrowboat from grand union for a long weekend. Steve is very helpful and friendly. They gave us a thorough training on the narrowboat, helped tie up the first night, met us at our first locks, and we’re on hand for any queries or issues during our trip. We’ve now been on Londonweed and Tassleweed. Both were very clean with good space to sit at the stern or bow when on the move. We’re a family of 5 and found both boats great - although I prefer the Londonweed as I found it easier to get young kids washed at the sink in the corridor rather than the confines of a bathroom. I would not hesitate to book again with Steve and his team. Enjoy life at a slower pace, with the peace of mind that Grand Union will be on hand."

Karen B (Apr 2022) - "Thank you to Steve and company for a brilliant holiday aboard their lovely boat Driftweed,,she had everything we needed,,we had great fun ,such a great holiday.2 couples ,2dogs . Thank you for the flowers and wine too !! We hope to do it all again one day "

Giles E (Apr 2022) - "Amazing experience, from booking our trip to all the advice given we had a lovely family holiday. Our narrow boat was so well equipped and was home from home. We ventured south, seeing some beautiful country side, meeting other narrow boaters and stopping for some well deserved pub food. Would strongly recommend Grand Union Narrow boats, Steve and the team were very welcoming and nothing was to much trouble."

EC Wynne (Apr 2022) - "We have just had a fabulous family holiday aboard Knotweed - Grand Union Narrowboats’ largest boat - cruising South from Weedon to Great Linford and back. We can’t praise Steve and his team highly enough. The whole experience has been fantastic from the moment of booking to our departure this morning. Steve’s communication was wonderful - he was always available to answer any queries and assist with planning our trip. He gave us a fantastic welcome when we arrived at the boatyard and a really thorough and well-pitched induction to the boat and use of locks - including a short period cruising with us to get us going and ensure we were comfortable before leaving us to it. The boat was in great condition - (the fleet is clearly maintained to a high standard) and the vase of flowers and bottle of wine were a lovely touch. Everything worked perfectly and we were glad of the fast and effective central heating in the evenings and early mornings. The shower was hot and powerful which was a welcome surprise! The interior and furnishings were all in excellent condition - everything felt fresh and we were given loads of towels and pillows which made us feel at home. My 6’4 husband even slept well on the dinette bed! The stretch of canal we explored was ideal for us and included a mixture of countryside, pretty villages and the Blisworth Tunnel which was exciting. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again with Grand Union Narrowboats and would thoroughly recommend them. Thank you Steve - we will be back!"

Guy B (Apr 2022) - "In one word excellent! For the second time in 6 months we hired out the Tasselweed. Yet again the boat was very well presented and of an excellent quality. Steve and his staff were incredibly helpful. On the first occasion Steve met us and helped us through the first set of locks. I would highly recommend this company."

Paul J (Apr 2022) - "We have just returned from a week's holiday on the Grand Union Canal. What a fantastic company. The customer service was excellent, with Steve (the owner) and his staff making you feel so welcome. They spend plenty of time making sure you know everything you need to know about the boat and then accompany you for the first couple of miles making sure you are completely happy before they leave you to enjoy the canals. The boats (we had Hawkweed) are in excellent condition and are very clean inside and out, with lovely little extras like fresh flowers in the cabin and a bottle of wine. The boat performed perfectly, everything worked as it should without a single snag. I will definitely use Grand Union Narrowboats for our next canal holiday."

Øystein Bredal-Thorsen (Apr 2022) - "6 friends came from Norway to UK snd GU Narrow Bosts with high expectations. They were all met 100%. Ecstremly serviceminded land-crew, efficient hand-over, friendly route advices; we wanted to come back even before we started our trip south on Grand Union. Our boat Knotweed was spotfree, clean and very well equipped - a real joy to have her as our base for a week."

Anna J (Apr 2022) - "We've just returned from a week on Jimsonweed and what a wonderful adventure! The boat was so well equipped and beautifully clean, and had amazing central heating, very welcome after the strong winds outside! They had also left wine and fresh flowers, which was a lovely welcoming touch. As newbies to canal boats, we were grateful to hear that one of the team would be staying on the boat for the first half hour to show us the ropes and make sure we were comfortable steering. Steve also met us at the first set of locks to show us how to work them and stayed as long as we needed to feel confident. The attention to detail from Steve and his team, and their willingness to go the extra mile, was so appreciated. Thanks for a great week, we will be back!"

Mel T (Oct 2021) - "As a newbie to narrow boating this was an excellent holiday. Relaxing, fun, beautiful and scenic. The team at Grand Union Narrow Boats were through in their briefing but not over bearing and sent us off with the number 1 aim of having fun. The boat was very comfortable and well equipped. Everyone along the way was helpful and made the experience socialable especially around the locks, equally the opportunity to get away from it all and moor up alongside overnight with no other boats around was most welcome. We pottered along and embraced the slower pace of life all week. I shall miss the good ship Ragweed. Thank you for a wonderful holiday."

William G (Sep 2021) - "First timers on a narrow boat - the whole experience was very therapeutic we were total novices when we arrived we met steve and his team ,Sophie took us through and explained everything to us when we were ready she took us out onto the canal and as soon as we were happy and sophie was happy with us handling the boat we were on our own. The next day steve met us at stoke bruerne to take us through the locks showed us how to use them and didn't leave us till we were happy .this was our first narrow boat holiday we totally loved it will definitely be doing it again , we were on the Driftweed it had everything we needed ,lots of hot water and central heating just wish we could have gone for longer will and deb"

Pat J (Sep 2021) - "5 star service and holiday - Nothing was too much trouble for Steve . On arrival we were welcomed and the safety talks and training were very clear so we felt safe to start our holiday as we had not been on a boat holiday before . The cleanliness of the boat was five star . The beds were comfortable too . There was enough utensils and crockery and all in a good condition . Can’t wait to go back and would thoroughly recommend this company ."

Yasmine W (Aug 2021) - "Great weekend on a canalboat. Thanks Steve you were fantastic and very helpful. Lovely well equipped canalboat which was comfortable for 6 of us plus our dog. Central heating worked well and there was good instruction at the beginning on how to pilot the boat."

"Old Man of the River" (Aug 2021) - "First class customer service and an excellent boat. A return visit to Steve and his superb team, but this time aboard Jimsonweed (none of us was called Jim, but it provided the opportunity for daily jokes from anglers, gongoozlers and boaters alike!). She handled beautifully and looked after us all well. A holiday from this yard has never disappointed, and everything about the way things are run is highly professional yet appropriately personal. Even in high season, the southern Grand Union is a delight - plenty of places to moor, good places to eat and lovely countryside. The 'weed' boats always attract admiring glances and fond comments, they are well looked after and comfortable. Everything looks and works as it should, I'd not look anywhere else for a holiday on the GU."

Barry T (Aug 2021) - "As novices to narrow-boating, we were understandably feeling excited about this new experience. On arrival, we were able to park close to the boat and were given a very thorough handover. When we were ready to go Jeff accompanied us for some distance and showed us both how to handle the boat, including steering, stopping, and mooring. We had Ragweed, which was the perfect size for the two of us. The boat was immaculately clean and extremely well equipped. Our first mooring was at the Wharf pub in Bugbrooke. The following day we arrived at Blisworth Tunnel, and with our expert tuition the day before, went through perfectly. Steve met us in the afternoon at Stoke Bruerne and trained us, along with another boat, in using the locks safely. He stayed with us until were we totally comfortable in operating them. Our four-day break took us to Yardley Gobion and back, with stops at some pleasant canal-side pubs for dinner. Even during August, finding somewhere to moor was never a problem on this stretch of the Grand Union. We loved the camaraderie of the other canal users and were greeted with a friendly wave from every passing boat. Gently cruising along the canals with the lapping of water and the sound of quacking ducks was definitely the most relaxing holiday we’ve had and we both totally unwound. Steve and his team couldn’t have been more helpful."

Bill M (Aug 2021) - "We were impeccably looked after from start to finish. As a party of five adults (three complete newbies to narrow boats, two had had a few days 30+ years ago, so effectively newbies) we were really well looked after by Steve and his team. Even before we went Steve was really supportive and helpful on the 'phone. We had 'Knotweed' which gave us lots of room for 5 adults, two loos, plenty of beds and a good living area. On arrival we were shown round the boat by Sophie, and then left to pack our stuff on the boat before parking our car up in the secure boatyard. The boat was well equipped, we didn't want for anything, and very clean. When we were ready to go Sophie accompanied us for several miles instructing us on all aspects of steering the boat, and gave us the know how to moor the boat, so we could get into the tightest of parking spots if necessary. Once Sophie was happy that at least two of the crew were competent we dropped her on the towpath for a long walk back to the boatyard. And we chugged on to our first mooring near a pub. The next morning we went through the Blisworth Tunnel, about 45 mins to get through it, and a good test of our boat steering skills, but we had been well trained and we got through no trouble. Steve met us on the other side of the tunnel and trained us in the operation and etiquette of locks. He stayed with us a long way into the flight of seven locks, not leaving until he was sure we were competent and knew what we were doing. And then off we went for a thoroughly relaxing and fun week, we shared the driving duties and took turns at the locks; lots of laughs and relaxation."

KSmith (Aug 2021) - "So much fun! From the initial email, to booking in, the instruction and THE holiday it was superb from beginning to end. Steve is very organised, and answered all our questions. Life jackets provided for our 2 munchkins. The arrival was highly organised (even with the challenges of covid) and after detailed instructions and support from Sophie we were off. Lots of reassurance and gave us chance to get to grips with the boat and practise mooring. The boat- Driftweed was immaculate and had everything we needed. Plenty of storage (more than we had anticipated). Loved exploring the country side at a leisurely pace. The children loved the tunnel and met lots of super people which made the locks easier as well as enjoyable. An active holiday and a leisurely pace, great fun for all the family, plus lovely pubs along the way. Thankyou to Steve, Sophie and the team. This company is family run and has a very personal feel- they care that you have a good time and we DID!"

Hollie (Jun 2021) - "Had a wonderful time on Driftweed, family of 4 adults, never been on a narrowboat before and was made to feel welcome and with help from Sophie we were on our way! Thank you so much, we have some lovely memories from our trip."

Henry (Jun 2021) - "ThGreat narrowboat holiday with GU Narrowboats. This was our 6th narrowboat holiday, and the first with GU Narrowboats. The communications with Steve before the holiday were excellent - including helpful discussions on possible routes. Collection day was well-organised (with all appropriate Covid-19 precautions in place) and Jeff kindly came with us for the first 20 minutes to ensure that I was familiar with the controls of our paticular narrowboat - 'Driftweed'. Driftweed had been well-prepared by the cleaning team (thanks ladies) - including sanitisation of all surfaces, and 'fogging' twice (once before surface cleaning, and once after). Super space and facilities on 55ft Driftweed for a couple - probably the best storage space of any boat we've hired. Very quiet engine - when we passed Crick Marina on tickover, another narrowboater asked if we were electric! Lots of comments from other boaters and public on how attractive the paint job was on Driftweed. Steve and the team have obviously looked after Driftweed well, and repainted/blacked to keep her looking good. We rented for a week, and managed to cruise up the Grand Union Leicester Line - via Watford and Foxton staircase locks (both manned by very helpful CRT volunteers), Crick and Husbands Bosworth tunnels, to the wharf at Market Harborough. We also went down to the end of the Welford Arm on the way back. 7-14 May was an ideal time to go - with few other boaters on the canal (Covid-19 influence as well) - with changeable weather, but mostly dry and pleasant. Well done Steve and team - we'll definitely be back!"

Kevin (Jun 2021) - "We have just come back from a 5 day trip on the Grand Union Canal which we enjoyed very much. Steve was friendly, responsive and helpful through the booking process. Upon arrival at the boatyard we were able to park the car right next to the berth. We were then shown the boat which was clean, well equipped and modern with a comfortable bed, TV and a surprisingly useable kitchen. Following an hour of careful tuition by Sophie we were unleashed on the waterways. After that we spent 5 days going down to Stoke Bruerne, the beginning of a lock run and then back to Weedon. The highlight was the Blisworth Tunnel. The whole thing was very enjoyable. I recommend a relaxing holiday using Grand Union Narrowboats."

Martyn (May 2021) - "Steve and his team could not be more helpful. So accommodating and personable. The narrowboat was superbly equipped and immaculately clean. Thank you, we had a great time and would definitely recommend."

Giles (Oct 2021) - "From beginning to end a total pleasure, superb staff, great boat with everything you need, spotlessly clean, flowers and wine waiting for us on arrival. Helpful friendly tuition, excellent pub advice and really friendly. Can't recommend highly enough."

Julian (May 2021) - "A week's holiday for myself and my wife aboard Ragweed in May. We were welcomed with a vase of flowers and a bottle of wine - an unnecessary touch that made this family-run firm stand out. Ragweed is an excellent medium-sized boat for two which we found easy to handle and maneuver through locks etc. Steve gave good instruction. The thing that struck us most was the attention to detail throughout; the way everything in the boat worked has clearly been refined over several years. The kitchen was thoughtfully equipped, enabling the preparation of a good meal from scratch. Highly recommended."

Lindsey (May 2021) - "Fantastic trip on Hawkweed, very comfortable and everything you need for a holiday up the Grand Union, friendly and helpful staff on hand, very professional and knowledgeable, beautiful fresh flowers and a complementary bottle of wine on board. Can’t wait for our next trip!! Very Covid aware company and boat was cleaned and sprayed internally before our arrival."

Nicola (May 2021) - "We have been narrow boating for over 12 years now and found Steve's company extremely helpful from the start with the booking process simple and easy. Upon arriving at the boat yard we were greeted by Steve and his friendly staff and were taken through the whole process which was thorough. We hired two boats, Tassleweed and Jimsonweed, both exceptional! Very Clean, Welcome pack, dishwasher and washing machine on one of them! We could certainly tell that Steve looks after his boats which are very well maintained. We had the most wonderful weekend and cannot wait to return...... This part of the country with the Grand Union Canal is great for boating with lots of beautiful pubs to stop at along the way! Would thoroughly recommend this company!"

Mark (Apr 2021) - "Just returned from a week away and Steve and team are great. From booking onwards the whole thing was easy and relaxed. The boat "Tasselweed" had central heating, dish washer, washing machine, microwave and fresh flower all of which were more than we excepted. The boat was spotless and in first class condition, other people we meet on the canal told us all of this companies boats are in top class condition and they are probable the BEST company to hire from on the Grand Union Canal."

Pauline (April 2021) - "A fabulous staycation. Our only regret was that we didn't book for a longer trip. Steve and his staff give great customer service. Nothing is too much trouble for them. As novices my husband and I were a bit nervous about the steering and the locks. We got great training and weren't left on our own until we felt safe. Steve then met us the next day to teach us and help us through our first locks. The boat was immaculate and had everyrhing needed on board. Including fresh flowers and a bottle of wine! We will definetly be booking again and look forward to another tranquil trip on the beautiful canals."

Roy C (Oct 2020) - "Just returned from a week with friends on Hawkweed and Ragweed. Steve and his team are brilliant, communication from first contact to end of our holiday was perfect, especially considering the times we are in. When we turned up the boats were spotless and perfect. The tuition and explanation provided was excellent to get us on the way, Steve then met us the following day at the first locks and stayed with us until we were all comfortable with their operation. We had a small issue with one boat and after trying a few things over the phone Steve was straight out and had it all sorted in no time. We would highly recommend and are already looking to book next year. Thanks Grand Union Narrowboats for a great week having fun and making memories with friends."

Ann Greenfield (Sep 2020) - "From start to finish we had a fantastic week on board Ragweed Steve and the staff at the boatyard were excellent following all Covid 19 guidelines 100% value for money we loved it and so did our dogs."

Carl H (Sep 2020) - "Excellent week on Jimsonweed. The owner Steve is always happy to help and nothing is to much trouble. The boat was very clean and has everything you could need, the additional measures in place made us feel assured in this current climate, very COVID safe. We have used several boat companies over the past 12 years, and Grand Union Narrowboats stands out above the rest, so much so we have already booked for next year. Carl and Kate."

Grafton travellor (Sep 2020) - "We had a lovely week heading first North to Braunston on the GU, then South to Banbury on the Southern Oxford. Driftweed is a lovely boat - very comfortable and well fitted out for the just the 2 of us. Very spacious cruiser deck, with good perch seats. Lots of useful cubby holes and stowage space inside. And she handles very well. We have hired narrowboats a number of times over the past three decades. Grand Union Narrowboats are, by a long way, the best firm we have hired from. They are a small family run firm and Steve, the owner, really goes out of his way to give his clients a good holiday. Nothing is too much trouble, with attention to detail and prompt customer service. Flowers and bottle of wine in the cabin on arrival. On the first afternoon, Steve caught up with us 3 hours down the cut to check things were going OK - a very nice touch. Finally, the firm's safe Covid processes on arrival and departure were clear, well ordered and inspired confidence."

Kate R (Aug 2020) - "We have had a great week on Tasselweed, our first family canal trip has been made so much better with the guidance of Steve and Geoff, who spent a lot of time with us ensuring we knew who to run the boat and operate the locks (even though this meant joining us on the morning after we collected the boat!) We had such fun navigating the locks, Steve’s recommendations of local pubs were spot on, and the route he suggested was brilliant with both an incredible tunnel and an aqueduct to navigate. The boat was incredibly well prepared, of an incredible standard and very comfy. Would definitely recommend Steve to anyone considering a holiday on the canals!"

Andrew (Jul 2020) - "On arrival we were impressed by the Covid precautions that had been instigated to ensure everybody's safety, we were given a full tour and instruction of the 70ft boat 'Tasselweed', then a briefing about canal safety. Tasselweed is the pride of Steve's fleet and we could not fault it in anyway from the fresh flowers and the little personal extras to the unexpected dishwasher and washing machine. This is our 6th barging trip, Steve is a small independent family run business that stands out above the rest as he really values his customers and has great attention to detail, striving to ensure that your holiday is the best it can be. We can see why Steve gets so many returning customers, especially as you can do so many different routes from his marina."

Mick (Jul 2020) - "Jimsonweed, what a boat our first holiday since covid 19 from the first contact with Steve until its cheerio on the last day everything was top class. On arrival everything was done to covid standards and Steve did not miss a thing. We have had many a narrow-boat Holiday, brand new boats and old boats but JImsonweed was the best, she may be dated but she is pure class and quality, everything was on board what you needed including a lovely bottle of wine and a bunch of flowers. The beds were the most comfortable we have had and the boat was so resposive it was a dream to drive, the location of the yard is perfect for starting your holiday."

JRR849 (Jul 2020) - "Just back from a fantastic mid week break on the Grand Union Canal in the first days after Covid lockdown. Driftweed was in absolutely perfect condition, Steve and the team did a wonderful job on handover both at the start and end of the trip. They were very clear communicating how they were adapting to keep the trip safe and Covid-friendly. We want to come back for a 2 week trip next time!"

Justine (Sep 2019) - "We have just got back from a fantastic week on Tasselweed ( 4 adults, a teenager and a ) I cannot fault anything the holiday was fab from the beginning to the end. We were greeted by Steve and his team on arrival they helped us unload and load onto the boat we were a bit stressed after 4 hours in traffic! We were informed and advised about every area of the boat before we departed. The boat was spotless and the little touches ( flowers and wine ) much appreciated. We had a great trip along the Grand Union Canal, lots of lovely places to stop and eat. A truly memorable experience and we all look forward to coming back soon."

Amanda (Sep 2019) - "This was our first experience on a canal boat. we went with our dog and another couple on Jimsonweed for a week. the boat was lovely, very clean and well decorated. it was well equipped, we had everything we needed for the week. Steve and his staff were amazing, really friendly and helpful. thankyou to Sophie who travelled with us when we set off to show us the ropes and make sure we knew what we were doing. we had a wonderful time and would definately book with Steve again."

Blondiekh (Aug 2019) - "...I had visited a few places & we decided that Steve’s Company was the right fit! It literally was such a Fantastic experience from 1st contact to our last moment! Steve has a really Great team & all extremely helpful!...Made the trip so much better having them on hand to show you personally how to do everything to make the most of your time with the Narrowboat rather than just watching a video....We were complete novices & got the hang of it pretty well on day 2....Thank you we had a great time seeing our beautiful county from a completely different view. Will 100% do this again."

Debby and Simon (Jun 2019) - "Booked a 4 night break for two adults and a dog. Absolutely loved it. Steve and his crew work hard to make sure you have a safe holiday experience. Ragweed is so well equipped, spotlessly clean and well looked after. I did watch the dvd four times and felt ready to tackle this new experience"

Glen (Jun 2019) - "Brilliant time away. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble!! Boats were clean comfortable and decked out really well."

Barry (Jun 2019) - "We said last year we'd be back, and we have just returned from another week on board. We hired Driftweed for a week and went south on the Grand Union canal to Cowroast. Another fantastic trip, the boat was great and more than big enough for the four of us. Yet again Steve and the team at Grand Union Narrowboats made sure everything was perfect and they really do make every effort so you can enjoy your time on a Narrowboat. I would definitely recommend them if you are looking to hire a boat. Contact them and they will help you to get the boat and route that is right for you. There are so many route options when leaving the yard at Weedon you are spoilt for choice. We have done a couple and look forward to working our way through the remaining ones!! We will be back, again!!"

Anonymous - Worcester (Apr 2019) - "You know you've had an amazing time when you don't want to come home. And when you have the engine on that little bit slower to eak out your last hour of cruising time.
We spent Easter weekend on ragweed and everything from start to finish was perfect. Communication from Steve beforehand was great and we had the best training from Sophie.
The boat was beautifully presented and super comfortable. It had everything we needed. So much so that we never left the boat all weekend. We took enough food and drink so we didn't need to stop and it was always our intention to properly 'get away from it all' so we did. We moored in some remote places with just the birds for company.
We travelled north from the boat yard and made our way to Elkington (bridge 28) over three days. Setting off early on Sunday morning was probably my highlight. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather and the mist on the water as the run was rising made it really very special. "

Evelyn (Apr 2019) - "Had an amazing week on Tasselweed. Week started off well with brilliant training (which is good as we are complete novices). Boat is really comfortable with everything that you need provided. Cant wait till we can go again and cannot recommend it more. Check out Tassleweed on YouTube."

TravellingBilburys - Devon (April 2019) - "This was, without doubt, one of the best holidays we've been on.
The people we met, the places we slept, the pubs we visited, and the food we ate were all lovely but the pace of life and the quality of time together made this a family holiday to remember.
Steve and his team were absolutely amazing from our first enquiry through to teaching us the basics of the boats and locks and setting us off on our own. A big thanks to Geoff, who stayed with us for the first few miles until we were confident rather than just giving us the keys and sending us off like some of the other crews who had boats from other yards we met had happen to them.
Our boat, 'Tasselweed' handled like a dream and Steve's reassurance that canal boating is a contact sport made me feel a bit less guilty about the scratches we put on it!
Sorry about those Steve!
We had a week and got to The Moorings in Royal Leamington Spa. Stop here, you will be impressed.
Another standout pub was The Old Olive Bush at Flecknoe- amazing food and a really friendly landlord. Bit of a walk but well worth it. Phone first though as they aim for quality of experience over quantity of covers and the dining area is not large.
Others well worth a visit we're The Two Boats, The Narrow Boat and The Boathouse at Braunston (so good we went in twice!). There are loads more we didn't get to and will definitely be coming back again to try some more.
It is the sign of a great holiday if you are sad when it comes to an end. We were all really sorry to have to leave but we will be back again as soon as we can."

Hexcelskis - Canada (Jan 2019) - "Have to confess we really enjoyed our amble along the 200+ year old canals. A lot of UK history along the routes no mater which way you go.
The longboat was well prepared and ready for the trip. Kitchen, bed, restroom, towels, guide books and fuel. The only additional task was to top up the potable water tank as required along the route.
Phil was thou rough with the ‘pre-sail’ checklist to go over all the procedures for piloting and living on the longboat. This was followed by a slow cruise along the canal. Lessons were also given for operating the locks.
Weedon is a family run business and the owners are proud and take care of their boats.
One has to set themselves in a different mindset on these canals.
They were originally designed for horse drawn boats so the overall longboat speed is a fast walking pace.
By chance we even got filmed on the youtube series 'Cruising the Cut', really recommend watching some of these before renting a narrowboat."

Pete L (Jul 2018) - "We just had the best week on Hawkweed. I've used many different companies on my numerous canal holidays but these are by far the best company I've used. They're a family company and really look after their customers. Steve and Phil welcomed us on our first day and they even helped us unload our car! They’re both very helpful and are always available should you need them. As for the boat... simply brilliant. Very quiet, new engine, all the creature comforts you need away from home. Shower is a real plus as this is something I've always felt let's the boats down, but the shower was great on Hawkweed. The simple best recommendation I can give Grand Union is that we are about to book again for next year! We would definitely recommend! "

Barry (Jun 2018) - "Just returned from a week aboard Tasselweed. There were 4 of us and the boat was fantastic. Everything you’d need and more - even a washing machine!! We packed up with everything we’d need for the week and Steve had already covered some of these things. It’s the little things like tea, milk, tea towels, the lovely toiletries that make the difference. Steve’s attention to detail is fantastic, he is very knowledgeable about the canals and did everything needed to make our holiday great. We arrived late on the Friday due to traffic and managed to get the first hour in on Friday night. Steve then came out on Saturday morning to make sure we were totally happy going through the locks etc. We had a great week going through tunnels, locks and just enjoying the canals. We cannot recommend Grand Union Narrowboats highly enough. We will be back!"

Anod (May 2018) - "Had a fantastic week on Tassleweed going from Weedon to Warwick & back. We had brilliant tuition from Steve at the start which meant that we could enjoy ourselves & have a stress free holiday right from the word go. There was 6 of us (3couples) on the boat, it exceeded our expectations regarding storage & space. I strongly recommend this company & boat"

Anonymous (April 2018) - "We've just returned from a great week aboard Hawkweed on the Grand Union, North Oxford, Coventry and Ashby Canals. We are experienced hirers and boat owners, and cannot fault either the boat or the service we received from owner Steve and his colleague Phyl. The business is run with a refreshing personal touch, yet with total professionalism - it's clear Steve has gained vast customer service experience in the marine leisure sector. We received a thorough demonstration of the boat, which was very well-presented - and the welcome touches such as freshly cut flowers in a traditionally-painted water can, a bottle of wine, fresh milk and tea were lovely to come on board to. It's wonderful to see the 'Weed' boats available for hire once again; refreshed, updated and resplendent in their new company colours - people seemed pleased to see the boat as we travelled, and it's exciting that a couple more are due to return to service. Steve and team should take pride in a job very well done - thank you for looking after us so well.!"

Barbara S (Sep 2017) - "Excellent service by Steve. Thank you for the lovely extras, very nice touch. We have had a fantastic week, Blissworth tunnel was an eye opener. Would highly recommend grand union narrow boats weedon. We look forward to a return visit in the future. Thank you."

West Midlands (Aug 2017) - "Four of us had a wonderful holiday - second week in July - on Tasselweed. The very thorough safety aspects and training given by Steve was second to none and enabled us to thoroughly enjoy our holiday with confidence, unlike some we met who hired from a very well known company and were shown a short video and a model boat! They found steering and manoeuvring in and out of locks almost impossible and commented 'never again'. But we had no such problems due to Steve's training. The boat was fully equipped and came with all the creature comforts, two permanent double beds and accommodated four adults with ease. It is obvious that the vessel is maintained to a very high standard by Steve and everything works perfectly. Being 'first timers' we chose the route along the Ashby canal which has fewer locks than other routes and was easily manageable in a week. You certainly get a different view of the world with canal cruising, a wonderful, scenic, tranquil, slower, mega relaxing pace of life. The Union Narrowboats website is simplicity itself to use, with the 'price you see is the price you pay', everything is included and great value, compared to some. So thanks to Steve and Union Narrowboats for a great holiday"

Helen & Michael Reed (Aug 2017) - "Hawkweed - wonderful week! We had a fantastic week on Hawkweed. Steve was really friendly and helpful throughout the booking process and also on arrival. The boat truly exceeded our expectations - fluffy towels provided as well as a thoughtful pint of milk and bottle of wine. Plenty of hot water and lots of kitchen equipment. Thorough hand over much appreciated and he even met us the next morning to give me lock training. I loved doing the locks - a good way often to chat with other boaters. We took Hawkweed south on the Grand union and made it south of Leighton. Going through the 3km tunnel at Blisworth was a highlight! And who knew cruising around Milton Keynes could be so beautiful. Great pub food incl Three Locks at Soulbury, Globe at Leighton Buzzard and Black Horse at Linford. Lots of interesting places to stop off at along the way and experience a slice of industrial heritage and lots of wildlife too including herons, kingfishers, moorhens, swans and ducks. Definitely recommend a holiday with Grand Union Narrowboats and thanks again to Steve and his crew."

Debra (Aug 2017) - "We hired Tasselweed during the last week of July 2017. There was everything you could ask for, plus some lovely extras which where a lovely surprise. Tasselweed was very clean and well equipped for our family of 4 plus Molly the dog who loved her holiday too. Steve is really friendly, he went through the tuition in great detail and ensured we understood everything and were confident ready for our holiday. He stayed with us for a short time as we first set off then we met him at the first locks for him to go through the procedures. Nothing seemed too much trouble and we would certainly recommend Steve and his colleagues to anyone thinking of a canal holiday in the Midlands."

Anthony G (Jul 2017) - "We hired Hawkweed over the weekend and had an awesome experience! The boat was faultless and the guys who run the company where really helpful at showing us what to do as we had no experience before. The area was beautiful and there's some great pubs along the way. I would definitely use these again in the future when we look to take it out for a week"

Nice, France (July 2017) - "A magical week on Hawkweed - Our holiday on Hawkweed (May 2017) was a really special and unforgettable experience – I particularly wanted to mention the following: The boat itself is comfortable and very well equipped – there was even a cafetière – and it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into client comfort. The bed remains as a bed so no having to put bed away / remake it morning and evening. This holiday was a first on the canals for me and I was quite nervous about managing the steering, the locks, the mooring… I need not have worried as Steve and his colleague gave really thorough tuition before letting us loose on our own, calmly staying alongside us as we completed our first locks and moorings. The experience of moving slowly through beautiful countryside was fabulous – what a way to relax. Hawthorn blossom everywhere meant glorious hedgerows and the canal birds were out and about with their babies. People we met and chatted to were friendly and, when it came to the locks, we always found kind people to give us a hand. A final comment is to say how thoughtful Steve is as an owner – there were all the basics in the kitchen cupboards to start us off on our trip and he went out of his way to make life easier for us – we went up to Weedon by train and he even assisted us with arranging transport to and from the station. We would have no hesitation in recommending Grand Union Narrow boats and fully intend returning for another holiday with them next year."

Carol H (Jun 2017) - "Great service by family owned company - We hired 'Hawkweed' for a week in May 2017 and cruised up to Market Harbourer and back, taking in the Watford and Foxton Locks (largest staircase in UK). The canal also included two tunnels, Crick and Blissworth. Wonderful relaxing time with the opportunity to meet people along the way. The only downside was the fact that tne hedgerows on the tow path often hid fabulous views across the Avon Valley. Steve and Steph have restarted the Weedon Narrowboat hire business. We met many people along the Canal who spoke highly of the "Weed" boats. Personally we were very impressed by the quality, layout and presentation of the boat. Seve went to extra lengths to make trip enjoyable with lots of little extra touches to personalise the trip. The hire price was all inclusive and gave the best value for money we could find. We have no hesitation in recommending this service."
